Spiritual Perspective

In my city, we have a place called the Falls.  Depending on how much water is in the river determines how much water flows over the rocks to create the Falls.  It is beautiful to watch.  The water is powerful, the river’s current is undetermined.  Many have drowned in its rushing waters.

In the spring, baby birds begin to make their presence known, swimming in the calm parts of the water.  In summer everything is green, lush, and breathtaking.  But, if there is a drought everything is brown, and hardly any water rushes over the rocks.  In the fall the leaves change and color fills the view.  In the winter everything is dead and cold, but once the snow comes a beauty of its own takes place.

One place, and yet so many different views can be realized.  Hidden details emerge in each season, rocks can be seen in droughts, and even the frigid negative degree weather, reveals a breathtaking winter wonderland.

It is the same for our perspectives.  We can be in one situation, but so stuck in our own views that we miss the details of what God is doing and saying.  We can see people through a colored lens, instead of how God sees them.  We can see our situations in a self absorbed and negative view.

It is so important to ask God for His heart and His perspective, and to see our situations, other people, and the world through His eyes.  I do not want to live in a world where my views are all I know, because it will cause me to miss opportunities to see God, I will miss blessings and favors, I will miss out on relationships, and on ministry opportunities.  No, God’s thoughts and views are so much better.  I want to see through His eyes, to understand my life through His truth, and have every one of my responses line up to Him.

Heavenly Father,

Forgive us for being stuck in our own perspectives, which can lead to damaging relationships, sin, and missed opportunities to see You move in our situations.  Today we choose to renew our minds, to put Your truth, found in the Bible, before our own perspectives (taking every thought captive and aligning it to Your Word), and we ask for eyes to see You and what You are doing.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
